The Middle East Academy for Medicine of Ageing (MEAMA) was founded in 2002 in response to the rapidly growing ageing population across the Middle East and North Africa. As longevity increases and health systems confront more complex age-related conditions, MEAMA serves as a regional hub for advancing education, leadership, and research in geriatric medicine.
Its mission is to build capacity and transform the integration of aging into healthcare systems through structured postgraduate education, human resource development, regional networking, and research promotion. To date, MEAMA has delivered eight postgraduate courses in geriatrics and two postgraduate courses in dementia, training hundreds of healthcare professionals who now lead geriatric services, academic programs, and national ageing initiatives across the region.
Through strong international partnerships and a commitment to innovation, MEAMA continues to shape the future of healthy aging and dementia care in the Middle East and North Africa.
